This is Groundwork Therapy’s most comprehensive program, designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in equine facilitated work. You will learn key skills enabling you to run equine facilitated workshops and personal development sessions.
This training program is structured to provide a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
The included online sessions ensure reinforced learning and evaluation, while the in-person learning intensives outlined below allow for students to foster a human-horse connection and apply theory.
The course runs over 22 days in total. There are 4 separate blocks of intensives that need to be completed in order. The intensive blocks are held over 6 to 12 months.
Facilitation Skills: Gain proficiency in delivering equine facilitated therapy and personal development sessions.
Invitational Approach: Master the AIA Invitational Approach™ to working with horses, respecting and establishing connections with them as sentient beings and co-facilitators.
Horse Knowledge and Safety: Understand the equine perspective, emphasising horse knowledge and safety.
Research Insights: Benefit from current research in the field of equine therapy.
Business Setup: Learn the essentials of setting up a business in Australia, including insurance, marketing and networking.
Accreditation and Certification
Upon completion, you will graduate with a certificate in the core principles and essential elements of AIA’s Invitational Approach™. This certification is recognised internationally and signifies your professional credibility also allowing you to be insured.
Admission Requirements
There are no specific prerequisites for this program. No prior experience with horses necessary. It is accessible to anyone interested in pursuing a career working with horses and people together. For mental health professionals interested in expanding their skillset, the model is taught in a way that you can work within your scope of practice and add this framework to it.

Held over 2 days, this personal and professional development course delivers a reflective practice with horses. Horses are powerful teachers, by working with them we can better understand ourselves and the people in our lives. In this course we employ the AIA Invitational Approach™ whereby horses help us understand and navigate relationships, firstly with them, then ourselves and others.
