CORE COURSE ONE

Practitioner Training Program

This is Groundwork Therapy’s most comprehensive program, designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in equine facilitated work. You will learn key skills enabling you to run equine facilitated workshops and personal development sessions.

Program Structure

This training program is structured to provide a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge and practical experience.

The included online sessions ensure reinforced learning and evaluation, while the in-person learning intensives outlined below allow for students to foster a human-horse connection and apply theory.

The course runs over 22 days in total. There are 4 separate blocks of intensives that need to be completed in order. The intensive blocks are held over 6 to 12 months.

Course Structure

(Block 1: 5 Days) Introduction to Equine Facilitated Teaching – Client Perspective: Gain valuable insights by putting yourself in the client’s shoes. Using empathy to enhance your teaching methods, and determine your scope of practice, identifying blindspots and discovering your process, in order to better prepare yourself to become a facilitator.  
(Block 2: 5 Days) Learning the Model to Teach: Master the core models of the AIA Invitational Approach™ framework in equine therapy and personal development.
(Block 3: 6 Days) Advanced Equine Safety/The Horse's Perspective: Learn advanced safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both clients, horses and yourself.
(Block 4: 6 Days) Practice Facilitation Skills in Action: Develop your facilitation skills by conducting workshops and practical sessions.
*Online Sessions: Four - six 2-hour online sessions to cover EFP theory and reinforce practical learning.

Key Learning Outcomes

Facilitation Skills: Gain proficiency in delivering equine facilitated therapy and personal development sessions.

Invitational Approach: Master the AIA Invitational Approach™ to working with horses, respecting and establishing connections with them as sentient beings and co-facilitators.

Horse Knowledge and Safety: Understand the equine perspective, emphasising horse knowledge and safety.

Research Insights: Benefit from current research in the field of equine therapy.

Business Setup: Learn the essentials of setting up a business in Australia, including insurance, marketing and networking. 

Additional Information

Accreditation and Certification
Upon completion, you will graduate with a certificate in the core principles and essential elements of AIA’s Invitational Approach™. This certification is recognised internationally and signifies your professional credibility also allowing you to be insured.

Admission Requirements
There are no specific prerequisites for this program. No prior experience with horses necessary. It is accessible to anyone interested in pursuing a career working with horses and people together. For mental health professionals interested in expanding their skillset, the model is taught in a way that you can work within your scope of practice and add this framework to it. 

Tuition Fees
$8,200 (inc GST) the program fee includes four in-person learning intensives, six online learning modules (2 hours each), all training materials, supervision, and meals during workshop days. Payment plans and financial aid options are available to eligible students.

CORE COURSE TWO

2 Day Personal and Professional Development Course

Held over 2 days, this personal and professional development course delivers a reflective practice with horses. Horses are powerful teachers, by working with them we can better understand ourselves and the people in our lives. In this course we employ the AIA Invitational Approach™ whereby horses help us understand and navigate relationships, firstly with them, then ourselves and others.

Accreditation/Certification: You will receive a certificate in competency plus professional development recognition totaling 16 hrs

Admission requirements: There are no prerequisites, this course is open to all. No prior horse experience necessary. 

Fees: $650 (incl GST) including all materials, 2 days training and morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea. Register together with a friend and receive a $100 discount each.
